here's so much to write about phuket, I don't know what not to write about it. I guess I should start that I have never seen crystal clear waters in my entire life. Not once and that was the reason why I'm so hyped about Phuket in the first place...=)
and then there's the spa massage that I've always wanted to try because I know my muscles definitely need it for it has been long overdue....so i'm glad to say that i've tried it all!
in another note, i'm sure some of u would be alarmed that i'm sleeping in the same bed as my guy-friend (not boyfriend hor). I feel compelled to explain myself because that's not normally the social convention, and so to avoid misunderstandings in the future, I have personal reasons for this and I hope you don't judge me too poorly for my choices. It's simply that I cannot sleep alone in a foreign place because I tend to have night terrors if I do...so if any of you had been to chalet with me, will realise that I'm always sandwiched between people....and i never sleep well when I sleep alone....hahaha!
In any case, let's have a day-to-day account!
Day 1

On that morning, my father was still complaining why we brought such a huge lugguage for a 5 day trip....i chose not to argue with him at 5:30am in the morning because it was fruitless and it'll just spoil my wonderful mood for that day. It's just one of those generation gap instances where you know you'll be shopping like crazy and know that you need that extra space....
In any case, I'm already glad that my dad's sending chris and i down to the airport. So while we were there, the checkin counters hasn't opened yet, so we decided to cam-whore a little, and to draw out extra cash in case we needed it in phuket...
and when the counter opened, my dad smoothly went in queue and motioned for us kids to come over....we also smoothly cut queue amongst like 30 other waiting passengers...hahaha.....Singaporeans' kiasu forever!
So in the plane TR2152 while landing, my ears hurt so much that I felt like crying and the landing seemed to take forever la....i hate my ear canals....=(
so when we finally landed, we took a 1.5hour journey to our hotel via mini-bus. It's the cheapest mode of transport, although not the fastest. However, paying 500baht vs 180 baht. I'll wait 30mins more thank you very much...
when we finally reached, we dumped out belongings and ran across the road to the beach! it was such a splendid sight!

pictures can never do justice to the wonder of
Karon beach....the stretch of beach we're staying on is the most trecherous and the waves you see here are almost 2m high! they are really huge and crash onto shore with the most tenacity i've ever seen. The monsoon season is very unforgiving to this beach and many people have drowned trying to swim its shores....so since it's going to be sun down....we bought 40% (i didn't hear properly and thought that it was a measely 14%) russian vodka and mixed it with coke....HAHA...i got real tipsy....and fell into the deepest sleep in a long time.
Day 2
The weather is still holding up despite the occassional rain. We were lucky to avoid it altogether...the rain seems to suit our schedule...heh heh heh...So decided to take a dip in the Andaman Sea in the morning after breakfast!
From the pictures, I think you can tell the differences in attitudes. Chris totally embraced the rough seas and waves while I'm a little more hesitant about my safety...HAHA! Yes, I'm humji..
.
Ok la, i remembered last time i almost drowned in Melbourne because the waves pulled me into the sea and my dad had to practically scamper for me...so yes, bad experiences. Chris had to practically pull me into the sea and out of my comfort zone before i felt comfortable to actually sit on the surf zone (where the waves crash on you) alone...I both love and hate it...but i know the only way to face my fears is to experience it...=) i'm a big girl now, I think i can take care of myself...

I hate to admit, but he looks good in this picture...HAHAHA, maybe the photographer has something to do with it too =X
So after washing off the sand the silt, we headed to the more famous beach above us...Patong beach for some shopping and sight-seeing. We ended up in Jung Ceylon where our shuttle bus (or rather, converted truck) alighted us. The reception strongly recommended this place so Chris and I were wondering what's the hype about.

Apparently, this mall is huge. I cannot stress the immensity of it. We didn't even manage to finish walking all of it in one afternoon and that's not even mentioning the outdoor stands. In any case, I bought my DKNY (di ku nei yi aka. underwear) here. I think cat remembers the bra shop in vivo that closed down. I found the exact same model for like less than half the price! eh, bras in Singapore are expensive ok? Although they cost 900baht for 2, it's still a steal. I don't really care if I'm eating into 1/5 of my spending money...=X
So people, when you want to go underwear shopping, please go to thailand, they have good quality bras for much lower prices. Even Wacoal and Truimph is cheaper there...
After Jung Celyon, we went around Patong to shop and I bought a few more items for my friends and family...and chanced upon this 'ice-kachang' stall parked alongside...it brought back old memories of how the ice-kachang man near my nanny's house used his hands on the grinder rather than the automated machines...some long-forgotten charms =)
all the road side stalls look like this and i'm proud to announce that we didn't need out diarrhea
medication at all! they are VERY clean and although flies surround them, they are not the least dirty. Of course, you need to also have a reasonable level of immune system first=)
at night, we went to the famous Simon cabaret show...it was a really huge production with fabulous costumes and we enjoyed every minute of it! Oh yes, and i'll never hear "Barbie Girl" by Aqua the same way again....*disturbed*BUT! the girls are all so pretty! It just goes to show that gender is not synonymous with sex...HAHA *yays feminine literature*
I've been really looking forward to this day and finally convinced Chris to book the tour with me to PHI PHI ISLAND! haha...this place is legendary for this clear clean oceans and wondrous sights (of granite tors)....So we didn't really know what to expect when they said 'speed boat tour' because our image of speed boat was a sampan with an engine attached at the back of it.
Thankfully, we were pleasantly surprised that if we capsize, there will be 48 other people around with us. In any case, it was a reasonably sized boat with 3 honda engines attached at the back of it. The tour guide was super funny and friendly... we rented fins for snorkeling and to protect our feet from the sea urchins, which were many actually. So people, if you are going snorkelling, the fins help to protect ur feet too!
So we're in the 'blue' group on the boat number 919...nice number hor? HAHA....the guide took security and safety very seriously. There was once when a passenger got up mid-journey to change seats with another passenger and the tour guide asked them to sit down immediately lest the boat capsize....it made sense because the speed boat relied on precarious balance on water to ensure its speed. Plus it's going at at least 80km/hr, and I'm like 2m from the engine, I would prefer to not capsize O.O". Imagine covering 49km in about half an hour....that's super fast please?
So amongst many things, the blue turquoise ocean framed by granitic cliffs is something I don't think I'll be sick of. It's just so breath-taking and I think this is the beginning to many breath-taking sights that I'll see in my life time =). The water is so clear, I can see through it and for Singaporeans who have been to Sentosa's beach? This is so much better...I love mother nature <3
