For accepting her for who she is, who never fails to turn up,
in times of need as well as happiness, or just there for a loving hug.

school vs education
I've been catching up on my tuition kids with make-up lessons. Yesterday, something really touching happened. A student I'm teaching told me that she is proud that I'm her geog tutor and that she really looks up to me as an example and inspiration. How do you reply to such things? I really don't see myself as some great source of inspiration, although I often aspire to be like that. I really hope I can live up to her expectations and see her through her A'levels. I think students in M.I are often misunderstood and not talked about amongst the A'level track students. I used to be proud to be a JC student, rather than an M.I student. However, this year, teaching 2 of such students, I finally understand why they are having difficulties. They have personal limitations of financial ability to hire good tutors, they have academic limitations on teachers who come from business management to teach econs to A'level H2 econs students.
Seeing such injustice makes prompts me to want to act: in the most direct fashion which is to join MOE and then "be a teacher, make a difference". However, I also know that I'll be jaded in no time and face the same situation as the teachers whom these students are wailing about.
Having said that, teachers are not entirely to blame because students (at least mine) also slacken in their pace in work and also want to enjoy. So I think private tutors are good in motivating students who are not motivated to study and to pace them when their school teachers cannot reach.
I'm glad that tutors are not seen in compeition with teachers, at least, I wish they are seen by most teachers as complements. =)
So yes, I'm grateful to have touched her life and I aim to touch many more in the future....doing research for the sake of people and changing lives....it's no wonder that academics are the ones with their heads chopped off first during a revolution D=
