Don't make promises you can't keep
If you're not sure whether you'll be able to call back that person that night, don't promise and say, "call you this evening."
If you're not sure whether you'll make it on that day, don't promise and say,
"yup, i'll make it that day." or "what time? when?" and then don't reply or "ok...see you."
If you're not sure whether you'll be able to answer the phone or call back 10mins later when you missed the call when you promised your friend that you'll be here to share the news, don't say, "must keep me updated ok?"
If you're not sure if you'll be able to stay out late, don't promise and give the impression that you will.
I understand the most of us are not psychics who can predict the future. Don't promise anything that you're not sure of, because it's starting to annoy me when people do just that.
