pity, i had tuition at 10am, so i wasn't much of a help.
hahahaha...anyway, i was reading the post before this one and realised that there were a ton of grammer/typo mistakes. =P i don't really mean to add "s" after those words, i guess it's becoming more of a habit.
so my mum, grandma and i went to Kong Meng San temple to prayer for 7th month. there weren't alot of people because we went in the afternoon. my very efficient mum packed all the food into plastic containers with red covers to match the "festival" and my grandma neatly placed all the food on the altar tables.Me? Well, i helped carry the food around (it is h-e-a-v-y), pour the coffee and basically be at every beck and call.
hey, i wasn't useless okay?
you know those crescent shaped wooden thingys that they use to check if the ancestors have started to come and eat? you're supposed to throw a pair of them, and if one is face up and the other is face down, it means that your ancestors have accepted the offerings. If not, any other way, it means your ancestors haven't accepted it - you have to wait respectfully until they do.
so my mum was jkingly telling me that everytime when i visit (i don't usually go every year), they only need to throw the crescent shaped wooden thingys once and it will show that they have accepted the offerings. other times when i wasn't there, they would have to wait very long.
maybe my ancestors love to see me? who knows?
yeah...my grandma is moving house again and so we went back to her house to unpack all the stuff that she is going to put at my house for the time being. i never realised how much stuff one person can have in a lifetime. on the way home, my mum was commenting that my dad has the most things in the house.
dad owns: 2 and a half wardrobes full of clothes(he took 1 of mine. it consists of 365 shirts, 10 long pants, 2 vests, 3 jackets, 5 shoes, 4 jeans, 5 shorts, 7 pairs of socks, 2 wrist bands, 5 underwear,1 singlet, no tie), 2 tennis bags, 5 racquets, 2 boxes of records, 3 boxes of tennis balls (103 in total), 8 cans of new compressed tennis balls, a million wires, 3 tool boxes, the TV, the Stereo, 1 drawer of CDs (last count was 48), the starhub cable box, 4 torchlights,3 drawers of nails and "spare parts" and the petrol.
mum: 2 wardrobes of clothes (which has 32 suits, 14 tops, no jeans, 10 skirts, 11 sets of pyjamas, 7bras, 18 panties, 5 pantyhoses, 2 petticoat, 12 CDs, 1 swimming costume, 8tee-shirts, 3 shorts, no socks and a sewing kit)a box of hello kitty collection, shared barbie doll collection (5 of the wedding dolls belong to her), a row of chinese books, 4 totes, 2 handbags, 6 shoes, 1 large carrier bag, 3 luaggages, 1 small box of jewellry, 12 files, a car, the computer and the piano.
i use the piano and the computer, my mum owns it.
me: 1 and a half wardobe of clothes(which includes 38 tops, 4 dresses, 5 skirts, 4 shorts, 2+1 jeans, 8bras, 26panties, 3belts, 2 shawl, 3 bags, 18 tee-shirts, 15 sets of pyjamas, no swimming costume and 1 tights), 5 shoes, 2 blankets, 2 drawers of keepsakes which include - present materials, cards/letters, calculator, clarinet mouthpiece/ligature/reed. a cupboard of barbie dolls (last count was 21), 4 bears, 2 bookcases of books, 16 files of notes/school, 27 text books, 24 CDs,5 dictionaries, hair mousse, hair spray, facial cleanser, body cream, hair moisturiser and a hair curler tong.
moral of the story, i have more variety, my dad has more quantity and my mum owns the quality. basically she "owns" the household records - every single receipt of servicemen, every warranty, every manual and every bank account record.even the water and electricity bill.
1 house, 3 people (now 4), a thousand possessions.
it makes me wonder, how much of those stuff do i really need?
