who taught who?

hahaha....i really love yj, but there are still some things i cannot stand. and one of them is the computer system.

so last fri, the geog teachers called me to ask if i was free to relief the J1's geog. without proper thinking, i said yes, no problem. after putting down the phone, i realised i should have said no. firstly, uni was opening soon and i'll be going for orientation talks, health checks etc. secondly, going back as a teacher is abit awkward in a sense. how will my friends in yj see me? i guess it's not much of a difference but still, it's just not RIGHT.

i went sch for assembly and after that headed to the general office to complete the paper work. then later to my disbelief, the office admin told us a long bunch of rules that MOE had set and one of them include document verification. another was that MOE has to approve my application. which will not happen in that day itself. so in other words, i am not paid for my work in that day. mrs renee low and ms yeo was there helping me sort out things and was quite touched when mrs low said, "what can we do to not shortchange this poor girl?"

hahahaha...sad thing i couldn't take geog and history together. i would've have liked mrs low as well.

in any case, i headed to the staff room with ms yeo and with mdm selvi, they briefed me on where mdm aisha had stopped. i took a look at some essay papers and decided to get a feel of their writing. it felt teacher-ish. lol, but in any case, it was pleasant to know that most students know their tectonics. i feel bad for laughing inwardly at some answers. some made me go "what the !@#&!@^?!" and others made me smile.

then later ms yeo offered me to lunch with her and we met nic and darren in the canteen. after that it was lect and then tutorial.

so to speak, i was abit intimidated at the fact that i'm teaching a tutorial. i have no qualms conducting a band, no qualms teaching friends but when it comes to serious geog teaching, it really daunted me.

but things went quite okay minus some sleeping people...hahahaha, so surprised to see amalina and benjamin in the class.i thought that it was me who is boring. but then later ms yeo said that students are like that and asked me to not take it personally. i guess i gave my all and i already try to make lessons interesting enough.haiz....somehow i feel not qualified enough to stand before them because i don't have a NIE cert behind my resume. then again, do you really need one to become a good teacher?

so after giving lessons, i headed downtown to attend lessons. business law is as i-n-t-e-r-e-s-t-i-n-g as always. if you know what i mean *wink*

today was a mini-heart attack. ms yeo called me to tell me that the system is all right and i can go down late morning. it was 8am. so i did and when i reached, the admin told me that the verification website thingy was out and i might not be paid today - again. half of me sank, but i told myself that i'm here for the students and today i had a h2 geog class to take.

perhaps maybe i know the feeling of "drifting" and the irritation of not knowing where you're going that makes me want to meet these kids badly.

okay, not kids. since they call me claudia anyway...HAHAHA

so the H2 geog tutorial was fruitful. i finished the block test paper in a tutorial and the class was generally quite participative. there are some people who talked and whispered, but it was not too bad. i thought back on how mr syn can finish the econs block test in 2 tutorials...1 for essay the other for case-study...and still marvel and how we still manage to learn so much from him.

so yeap...i'm not going to school tomorrow because there are no classes and i prefer to do my preparation work at home rather than in school. besides, i have the whole of friday morning to fine-tune some stuff.

interesting experience on the whole...pity i share the same staff room as mr lim but didn't get to see him.

oh yah...there was this one interesting thing about staff rooms. you get to hear teachers in ways you never imagine. they actually become normal people - people who like korean hunks, people who like nachos, people who are stressed about prelims as their students.

and the chemistry department cracked a question with regards to redox and disproportionation. hahaha...one teacher was saying, "i'm always very proud of yj's questions. we should take pride in our questions." and there were interjections of (imagine wheezy voice of you-know-who) "not possible, then the answer for chlorine would not be correct. i tell you la, must divide by 3"

hahahaha.....so nostalgic, chemistry is literally, right around the corner.
