In this fast-paced world of last minute work, spring cleaning one's house now, seemed very much like a premature idea....
it's not, ladies and gentlemen because apparently, the kan chiong family that lives in some part of yishun have already FINISHED cleaning the house.
if i might add....we didn't do it in peace and quiet.
maybe you might not come to understand what drove us to clean the house so early....indeed, spring-cleaning in a winter month...
but you see, my mum is one heck of a clean-freak. not that i'm complaining, but the idea of cleaning every nook and cranny of my room just puts me into high level of stress. why?
i hate cleaning - so every my mum nags me to "clear that file", "clear my study table" and "fold the clothes" just turns me OFF.
seriously....it's not off as in switching Off a fan, it's more like a power outrage kinda OFF.
because i cannot understand why....(may i repeat)...i cannot understand WHY i have to clear my notes and stationary when my studies aren't complete? like what's up with a clean room man?
okay.....maybe my dad and i can be alittle sloppy with cleaniness, and my mum always has to chase us around the house to clear unwanted newspapers and rubber dust. but that's not the point.
it's not unknown in my whole family that my mum is the goddess of cleanliness or something. it seems that everything she touched will be magically transformed. and the few days before, while packing with my mum, i've learnt a few tips that perhaps maybe you can try to adopt.
For the bookcases
1) Never Ever pull everything down and attempt to put them back again:this is because the task will overwhelmed you and put everyone else in the same room in bad mood.
2) Sort: form a mental picture of where you usually sit, and place the most important files and books nearest to you.
3) Label: the simplest most mundane thing that most people forget. my mum is a fan of labelling...she helped me form a new music compartment and subdivide them into -SongBooks--Theory--Manuscripts--Exam--Band-- (insane as it sounds, but i found many lost scores in the process of sorting)
4) Adjust: I notice that many book cases have adjustable shelves. Some people don't bother to utilise them...hmm. Try adjussting them and you find that you can free up many space. I now have a small section to put my CDs. (can save money on cd racks)
5) Keep it Up: Don't be lazy and chuck things onto shelves that they don't belong to. Saving 5 secs is not worth it because you'll probably have to spend 5 hours to REPACK them...
and i believe that idea doesn't really ring nicely does it?
seriously......one cannot imagine how much trash a person can have. I have 3 boxes of trash waiting to be recycled sitting, if i may add, uncomfortably at near my bum. it just reminds me every second how i've grown...that these things i've already out-grown them.
then, let's move on to the wardrobe. every girl's nightmare....thanks to my mum, she's sorted everything out too, and here's what i gathered.
1) Jewel Hassle: Can't seem to find places to put that fashionable looking necklace? go get a medicine box...those with alot of compartments and slot earrings, pendants and even stockings comfortably...you need one? i've got plenty...hahahaha
2) Mean Jeans: hang jeans, pants, and full length dresses in one wardrobe compartment. you can add track pants and scraves if you like.
3) Loss Socks: Can't find a pair. use cloths pins....and pin them together.
4) Shirts: Hang them according to brand, or if there isn't a specific brand, hang them in this order- Collared, long sleeve. Non-collared, long sleeve. Collared Short sleeve. Non-collared short sleeve. Sleeveless. Odd looking shirts.
5) The rest: i don't know, but common sense tells me to fold the rest accordingly. EG. shorts, shirts, D.k.N.y.....blah blah...

so much for packing people....i'm sure packing won't come until later...but free up one day and clear your room, because you'll feel so much better after that...and you'll breathe to tell the tale of how clean your room is now. :D
oh and one more thing....i realise, students should always get a cork board. to keep track of school as well as social events...and a table calender by your side to remind you that WE DON'T HAVE ALL THE TIME IN THE WORLD.
