Hmm...yesterday was the last piano lesson of the year, so as tradition since the last 7 years, we bought chocolates for ms lam...oh man, i also want to eat leh, then i told ms lam and she kindly offered her log cake to me...*yum*
(Btw, the chocolates has coconut shreds over a white chocolate cream underlayer. rocher biscuit and white chocolate in the core it....oh man*melts*)
so ya....while exiting, we wre making small talk and stuff, and my teacher was saying she was invited to this party at her club. then one of the requirements written on the invitation card is that you have dress more than $200 in order to attend.
WHAT THE.....?*self-censored*
can anything get more explicit than that?
then, she went on to elaborate that there is a person standing at the door checking if you're "expensive" enough to attend. *rolls eyes*
it seems that our world have just gotten more materialistic. it's just a party, dressing up in common sense is one thing, but dressing up in dollar sense is another.
shows how ridiculous our society can get sometimes. i even suggested to my teacher to just leave the price tags out and bring a calculator for them to calculate (oh yah...don't forget to inculde the thousand dollar diamond brooch!)
*censored**censored*censored*
*exasperated*
trying to be reasonable here....if you have to go for a cocktail party, you need a cocktail dress no? so since, you require to dress for the occasion, it would definitely makes sense to get a cocktail dress. Now, it makes perfect common sense to spend $200 because coctail dresses cost that much.
but now, they're asking you to dress $200 because it's a "fancy dress" competition. the most expensively dressed person gets a voucher...oh puh-lease...my teacher even scoffed say it's most probably a $5 popular voucher or something like that.
it's not like she can't afford, that's whgy she's being petty. it just seems weird since she's not asking for a guy to marry her, and there are other ways for one to carry out a party. dressing up party? then why didn't they say so?
Material world....like just now, i watched this show and the interviewee was asked, "what do you think should a girl do to pamper herself?"
i held my breath for the answer because most would splurge on cars, clothes, condos...etc. but this author humbly answered, "i would pamper myself by filling myself with current events."
Now current events here doesn't mean the business times, but rather, everything from current fashion, to current news to everything in between....she also mentioned that being happy is to increase the value of yourself. learning new things, keeping up with the world.
it's one thing to keep up with new things, but another to totally pin your life on it. your life would seemed to have no roots -quoting her
cleverly, she illustrated that many young girls spend thousands on bags and keep them in plastic covers only to sell them when the price went up. then asked, "Why don't you invest in yourself rather than a bag?"
-WELL SAID-
i can't agree more....it's not asking you not to be vain or pretty...
it's more of keeping the inside of you filled up. If 5 years down the road, you feel that you've not improved or learnt anything, then those years would seem such a waste.
Would that $200 matter to you now? Buying shoes when you don't need them, buying bags when they're not spoilt?
it's all in the necessity. it just depends how you view on what necessity is.....
